Protect the Source™: Kinship

Supporting the people who hold families together

Nervous-system-informed wellbeing created with and for kinship carers—offering compassionate space to rest, regulate and reconnect while navigating the realities of caring for a child within the family.

Kinship care can protect a child’s safety, identity and sense of belonging. Protect the Source™: Kinship recognises that the wellbeing of the person providing that care matters too.

Love does not make the load invisible

Becoming a kinship carer can change almost every part of life.

Alongside love and commitment, there may be exhaustion, uncertainty, financial pressure, complex family relationships, professional involvement, changing identities and the continual responsibility of helping a child feel safe.

There may be little time to process what has happened—because somebody needs you to keep going.

Many kinship carers become the source from which reassurance, advocacy, stability and everyday care continually flow. Yet support for the person holding all of this can be difficult to find.

Protecting the source is not selfish. It is an ethical responsibility.

Protect the Source™: Kinship creates space for the carer within the caring role.

Wellbeing that begins with your lived reality

This is not another demand to practise better self-care or become more resilient in circumstances that remain genuinely difficult.

Samsara offers a gentler approach.

Through accessible wellbeing education, reflection and restorative practices, kinship carers are supported to:

  • Notice their own capacity and needs
  • Understand common nervous-system responses to sustained stress
  • Recognise depletion before reaching crisis point
  • Explore boundaries without shame or guilt
  • Develop simple, realistic ways to rest and regulate
  • Reconnect with identity beyond the caring role
  • Build a more sustainable relationship with caring

There is no expectation to disclose personal experiences, perform wellbeing or arrive feeling calm. Participation is always invitational and shaped by choice.

The Kinship Wellbeing Pathway

The Kinship Pause

A restorative introduction

A gentle, one-off workshop introducing nervous-system awareness and practical ways for kinship carers to pause, notice their capacity and create small moments of restoration within everyday life.

The Kinship Pause can be offered as:

  • A stand-alone wellbeing workshop
  • Part of a kinship support event
  • An introduction to the six-week programme
  • A restorative session within an existing service

Protect the Source™: Kinship

A six-week live wellbeing programme

A structured, nervous-system-informed programme combining accessible education, compassionate reflection and practical restorative tools.

Across six facilitated sessions, carers are invited to explore the relationship between sustained caring, personal capacity, boundaries, regulation and reconnection.

The programme is designed to help carers develop a living rhythm of support that can respond to changing circumstances—rather than prescribing a perfect routine or adding another list of things they “should” be doing.

Protect the Source™: Kinship can be delivered live online, making it accessible to carers across different communities and geographical areas.

Kinship Restoration Circles

Ongoing space to reconnect

Monthly facilitated circles can provide continuity after the six-week programme.

These gentle group spaces allow carers to revisit supportive practices, reflect on their current capacity and remain connected to a community that understands the distinctive nature of kinship care.

The circles are not therapy or crisis support. They offer structured, restorative wellbeing support within clear and compassionate boundaries.

Retreat and community experiences

Longer restorative experiences can also be created for kinship communities, bringing together gentle movement, breath, rest, reflection and meaningful connection.

These may be commissioned as:

  • Kinship wellbeing days
  • Seasonal retreats
  • Community restoration events
  • Bespoke sessions for established support groups
  • Complementary experiences within kinship conferences or family events

Each experience is shaped collaboratively around the needs, accessibility and capacity of the participating community

Protect the Source™: Kinship
Rest • Regulate • Reconnect

Because the people holding families together deserve somewhere they can be held too.

Whenever you’re ready, we’ll be here to welcome you home.

For kinship carers

You may recognise yourself here if you are:

  • Raising a grandchild, sibling, niece, nephew or another child connected to your family or community
  • Carrying significant responsibility while navigating complex family circumstances
  • Supporting a child affected by change, separation, loss or trauma
  • Feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself
  • Finding that conventional self-care advice does not reflect your life
  • Looking for gentle support that does not require you to explain or justify everything you carry

You do not need any experience of yoga, meditation or nervous-system practices. You are welcome to participate in ways that respect your body, privacy, culture and capacity

For organisations and commissioners

Protect the Source™: Kinship offers a distinctive addition to existing kinship services by focusing specifically on the wellbeing and sustainable capacity of the carer.
